How to change background animation on Warcraft 3 Frozen throne Main Menu

To change background animation on warcraft 3 main menu you need an MPQ Editor for example Ladik’s MPQ Editor http://www.zezula.net/en/mpq/download.html

Mpq Editor is application used for editing an mpq archive used by warcraft 3. Its very easy to use just like another GUI archiver (winzip, winrar, Mpq master). It can edit, extract, replace, execute files directly from archive with drag and drop support

To change the background animation on warrcaft 3 frozen throne we should replace the original menu with new one. File type used for background animation is *.MDX file. This file located inside of file war3x.mpq on warcraft III directory.
Step-by-step changing background animation:
- Run MPQ Editor then Load war3x.mpq then you’ll se many folder on archive
- Go to folder UI -> Glues -> MainMenu -> MainMenu3d_exp
Go find file MainMenu3d_exp.mdx and rename it to MainMenu3d_exp.mdx.bak
- Drag and drop your animation file (must be *.mdx) to MainMenu3d_exp folder and rename your file to MainMenu3d_exp.mdx
For example use background animation from campaign menu located on folder
“ UI -> Glues -> SinglePlayer” there are four animation for each race campaign (folder alliance_exp , NightElf_exp, Orc_exp, Undead_exp) . You can use all of them easily.
Just extract file mdx that use same name with the corresponding folder and drag and drop it to MainMenu3d_exp folder and remane it to MainMenu3d_exp.mdx

In this tutorial used animation from undead campaign, yes with animation arthas standing on the icy land.
- Then click File -> Close MPQ Archive
- Done, launch Warcraft 3 Frozen throne and now main menu background should change..
